Ending Back Pain with Alternatives
For those of you who may be suffering from back pain
wondering when will the achy sensations will end, there is some good news. Generally, back pain will ease up within four weeks. In extenuating circumstances where the back pain is attributed to a major medical, an appointment with a primary care physician may be necessary. But before one considers seeking medical attention, here are a few home remedies to quell back pain.

Remain active. Over-extended periods of bed rest is not the best treatment alternative for back pain. With moderate activity, the body is able to recover faster. Apparently, an activity that aggravates the back is not suited for continuation. Nevertheless, continue to maintain activities that do not cause pain.

Apply cold compresses and then heat. When hot or cold compresses are applied on achy muscles, they may soothe the inflammation. Subsequent to a back injury, ice packs or cold compresses are recommended several times a day in 20 minute applications. The ice pack should be wrapped in a cloth or towel as a barrier between the skin and the icy solution.

Ice should be applied as long the spasms are perpetual. After the acute pain and spasms have subsided, hot compresses may be applied to loosen tight muscles. Again, the applications should not exceed 20 minutes. Over the counter pain relievers may serve a good home treatments to quelling back pain.

Pain reliever alternatives include acetaminophen, ibuprofen, aspirin, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Tylenol is a good example of a pain reliever that contains acetaminophen. Both Motrin and Advil are examples of ibuprofen pain relievers. Aleve is good pain reliever that contains a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.
